Vitamin A helps to heal damaged skin, promote cellular growth and reduce the signs of ageing. Sea Buckthorn oil penetrates deep within the skin’s lipid layers to nourish, hydrate and support the skin’s healing process from within - helping to regenerate skin, restore elasticity, firmness, and promote younger, healthier looking skin. Its antioxidant powers also help to protect the skin from damaging free radicals - one of the major causes of premature ageing. In addition to the above, Sea Buckthorn has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that can be beneficial in treating skin irritations and acne. It is also believed to accelerate wound repair and reduce scarring.

The name of this waxy solid comes from the Greek word ‘steatos’ that means tallow. It is found in high percentages in cocoa and shea butters. Vegetable stearic acid is a waxy solid and is often derived from coconut. Stearic acid is used to thicken and emulsify lotions and creams and to create a harder bar of soap. Humans are animals and stearic acid is found naturally in the outer protective layer of our skin, and is an elemental building block in the lipid layers of the skin. The stearic acid used in MySkinFeast products is sourced from coconut.
Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus amygdalus) has a fine and silky texture, is easily absorbed, and helps to leave the skin soft and satiny smooth. It is rich in minerals, vitamins, proteins, and essential fatty acids, helping to soften, nourish and revitalize the skin. Sweet almond oil helps relieve irritation, inflammation, and itching; and is very lubricating due to its tendency to penetrate slowly. It helps protect the surface of the skin and promotes a clear young looking complexion. Sweet almond oil is rich in oleic and linoleic essential fatty acids, and works well when mixed with another more stable oil to give it a longer shelf life.

High in vitamins C and E, it has strong antioxidant properties. It has become increasingly popular in manufacturing circles as a natural preservative, though it is important to note that Grapefruit Seed Extract is not in itself a full-spectrum preservative. It can be used in a wide variety of personal care formulation for reliable preservation. Buy from a reputable source to avoid concerns the EWG reports regarding additive or contamination problems.
Green and White Tea (Camellia sinensis or oleifera) contains 200 times more antioxidants than vitamin E and contains polyphenols and other anti-aging properties. Polyphenols are a class of bioflavonoids and have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. Green tea appears to exert sun damage protection by scavenging free radicals and reducing inflammation rather than by blocking UV rays.

Tallow was traditionally applied as a soothing and regenerating balm for weathered and irritated skin. Modern science has provided further insight into the specific mechanics of this healing reaction. Tallow is…
- Stable: Like coconut oil, tallow has a very beneficial fatty acid profile, with 50-55% stable saturated fats. This means that it is stable and does not readily go rancid, such that the beneficial nutrients can easily be preserved without refrigeration for extended periods of time.
- Nourishing: Properly treated tallow from grass-fed cows is especially nutrient dense, rich with nutrients that plant-based oils simply do not possess. Tallow contains a harmonious balance of fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, in a balanced combination with their activators. It also has an abundance of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which as been shown to have anti-inflammatory effect and palmitoleic acid which has antimicrobial characteristics.
- Easily Absorbed: When you apply tallow you will notice that it leaves your skin feeling smooth without leaving a greasy residue as with some body butters. Some experts hypothesize that this is due to the similarities in the fatty acid profiles of tallow to human cell membranes and sebum (the waxy substance naturally secreted by your sebaceous glands to lubricate, waterproof and protect the skin). In Latin “sebum” actually translates to tallow or lard.
- Safe: Tallow has long been consumed as cooking oil that is especially useful for high temperature cooking and frying due to a high smoke-point. It is safe to eat, delicious, and safe to put on the body. It received the best possible safety ranking in the EWG database. It is important that tallow is sourced from pastured, grass-fed cows to avoid contamination with pesticides and other nasty chemicals.

It also contains minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium, manganese, copper, and melatonin. Its powerful emollient properties leave the skin feeling soft and smooth and it is often used as a key ingredient in anti-ageing creams to regenerate and moisturize mature, dry and damaged skin. It is also helpful for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections, and for healing wounds. Walnut oil has anti-inflammatory properties which are believed to assist in easing arthritic conditions.
Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum durum or T. aestivum) contains nearly 25% of the protein, vitamins and minerals of the entire grain of wheat. The oil is very high in vitamin E and essential fatty acids and is a natural antioxidant which helps to prevent rancidity, it is often added to other oils to help lengthen shelf life and to prevent them becoming rancid. When wheat germ oil is applied topically, it helps promote the formation of new cells, improves circulation, and helps repair sun. It is also used to help relieve the symptoms of dermatitis. The consistency is sticky and heavy to use alone, but excellent as an ingredient of a blend. Wheat germ oil, like vitamin E, is suitable for application to scars as well as areas of problem dry skin such as elbows and knees. The SPF for wheatgerm oil is reported to be 20, though it is not appropriate for acne-type skins.
Xylitol is a natural sweetener that can be extracted from any woody fibrous plant material. It does not break down like sugar and can help keep a neutral pH level in the mouth. Xylitol also helps to prevent bacteria from sticking to the teeth. Research has shown that the use of xylitol also helps repair damage to the enamel. MouthMud uses the brand XyloSweet that is sourced from non-GMO corncobs. Most corncobs are discarded in American agriculture, but some are processed into useful products such as xylitol. Note: Xylitol can be poisonous to dogs, so keep the lid on your MouthMud!
